Smart Power Strip

The average home has numerous small power supplies such as computers and televisions that are kept plugged in and thus each drawing in their own standby power. Savings from controlling this standby power could be significant; it is estimated that this unnecessary power makes up about 20% of the total energy consumption in a single home.

  • cost for a large TV is $31.50
  • cost for a computer is $15.77
  • most American homes have at least 5 different units connected

A solution to this is to manually turn off a powerstrip that is feeding standby units unnecessary power, BUT...will you remember?

  • if Yes, then you're done and will save over $100 a year
  • if No, then there is an answer

The Smart Power Strip is...

  • analogous to Programable Thermostats
  • set it up once and forget it. Saves $100s
  • measures power consumption
  • determines if device is in standby, and if so, automatically turns it completely off
