The UMass Dartmouth Pavement Materials Laboratory operates in a 3,300 square foot laboratory and office space located at the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center. The laboratory is equipped with many state of the art materials testing equipment related to the testing and research of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) concrete and its constituent materials. Specifically, the laboratory is equipped to conduct materials property testing of asphalt binders, aggregates, and asphalt concrete mixtures. Additionally the laboratory is equipped to test the performance of HMA concrete mixtures utilizing Accelerated Pavement Testing (APT) devices and the Simple Performance Test (SPT).
Moreover, the UMass Dartmouth ATMC Pavement Materials Laboratory has conducted research and testing in incorporation of recycled waste materials into HMA including crumb rubber, Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP), and roofing shingles.
