The Textiles and Materials Lab serves the materials communities in the southeastern Massachusetts and at the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth by providing equipment, lab space, technical staff, and student interns to link faculty's expertise to the industry's technical need.
In-kind contributions can be arranged to help faculty in obtaining preliminary data for proposals. These contributions are usually used to cover the costs of equipment and personnel in the Textiles and Materials Lab. All of the equipment and tools are available for hands-on use by faculty affiliates and their students. Training is available by appointment. The lab also works closely with industry partners to develop new technologies and provide engineering solutions for production lines in manufacturing sectors. Services, major equipment, and R&D activities are listed below.
Material Science and Technology
Oxide materials as supercapacitors, electrocatalysts, photocatalysts, conductive coatings, dimensionally stable anodes, semiconductors, dielectric materials, corrosion protection and
chemical approaches to the design of oxide materials.
Material Characterization
Electrochemical analysis and characterization, including linear sweep voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, chronoampermetry, chronocoulemetry, electrochemical impedance, corrosion behavior, porosity measurement.
Biomedical Engineering
Corrosion behavior of surgical implant alloys,
electrospun collagen scaffolds for cell culture.
Surface Engineering and Applications
Electroless plating for EMI shielding,
photoactive release coatings for biofouling control.
