The Doing Business channel of the Mass.Gov portal provides information in four major categories: Starting a Business in Massachusetts; Taxes, Licensing, and Regulations; Resources to Help You Succeed; and Business with the Government.
The Small Business Administration is a government agency that provides assistance to small and start-up businesses, including funding, business and technical expertise. Great source of information on how to start a business and business plan writing. It also has a link to government publications, laws and regulations, and business directories.
Financing Your Business
List of Venture Capital Companies with offices in Massachusetts (71 companies on the list)
An Internet-based investment program. Helps small businesses get additional financing through a matchmaking service between investors and entrepreneurs.
This web site gives access to the database of all Federal programs available to different kinds of organizations. It also provides a short summary of each grant program, as well as contact information for Federal agencies that award grants.

The web site has a lot of links to business sources including financing, accounting, human resources, business expertise, small business development centers, business plan assistance, books, directories and guides.
The site is especially useful for its online business assistance guide, which covers most everything having to do with business in Massachusetts, including contacts for more information. The MOBD also provides statewide and local data such as New England regional data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and data about Commonwealth communities and employment information.
The Massachusetts Small Business Development Centers' (MSBDC) mission is to engage in individual counseling, training and economic development activities that contribute to the improvement of the economic climate for small businesses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This page includes useful links and information about the center serving Southeastern Mass. from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

As a regional nonprofit economic development corporation, South Eastern Economic Development (SEED) focuses on job creation by financing all types of small businesses in southeastern Massachusetts.
The Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District is a non-profit public planning agency. The SRPEDD district includes 27 cities and towns in southeastern Massachusetts. The SRPEDD is involved in developing of the regional economy by researching, providing technical assistance, preparing bylaws and ordinances and programming funds.

The Boston Entrepreneurs' Network provides the New England Inventive and Entrepreneurial Community with the information necessary to transform an abstract idea from concept into a product or service.
The Cape Cod Technology Council is an organization of technology companies located on the Cape and surrounding areas. Its purposes include identification of technology business activity on Cape Cod, promotion of local technology businesses, and support of individuals and companies in their efforts to remain on Cape Cod. The site links to the Council's calendar of events, news, directory, listing of Cape jobs in technology, and more.
The SCORE Association (Service Corps of Retired Executives) is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The Smaller Business Association of New England is a nonprofit organization established to promote and protect small businesses. The area of business includes educational and management programs, small business advocacy and peer resources.
The mission of the Southeastern Massachusetts Manufacturing Partnership (SMMP) is to improve the competitiveness of manufacturing companies. SMMP focuses on addressing the needs of over 2,000 small and medium-sized firms in Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket counties. Venture Forums in the Area
Through networking forums, educational meetings and conventions, as well as the annual the SmartStart Venture Forum unites emerging technology related companies with investors throughout the East Coast.
The MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge is a volunteer, non-profit organization based at MIT whose mission is to promote and strengthen the process of starting and growing innovative and technology-oriented companies by providing services and programs that educate, inform, and support the entrepreneurial community.
TCN serves professional venture capital funds and corporate investors who are interested in early-stage, high-growth companies. It has a proprietary, computerized matching process (TECNET) to provide introductions between entrepreneurs and private investors.
The Venture Forum promotes and serves technology-based entrepreneurial activity throughout New England. Their website allows you to access the Governors budget and contact the EOAF with any questions you have about the financial status of the state. The website also includes administrative bulletins to ensure that state agencies are complying with state and federal laws.

The SAC website has information on all the ports of Massachusetts and gives vital information for each of the ports. Each port has its own page, which outlines its abilities and structure.
The website for Water Pollution Abatement Trust supplies information on laws and acts which have been passed for safe drinking water.
